Correct application is essential for achieving the rated yield improvement. The standard process is:
- Surface preparation: The block surface must be free of loose material, dust, oil, grease, and clay. The block should be dry, and the surface mechanically roughened before application.
- Mixing: Components A and B are combined either on a polished tile surface (typically 60×60 cm) using a spatula, or in batches of 3–4 kg in a clean container using a mechanical mixer, for no more than 2–3 minutes until fully homogeneous.
- First pass — corners: Working from the corners in 20 cm sections, the gel is applied with a 3 mm notched trowel, and pre-cut sections of fiberglass block mesh are pressed into place.
- Full coverage: The remaining block surface is coated with the notched trowel, and the fiberglass mesh is applied across the entire surface.
- Finishing: A flat plastering trowel is used to skim the surface smooth once the mesh is fully embedded. Mesh edges on the top and bottom of the block are pressed flat against the surface.
- Cutting: Once the gel has fully cured, the block is ready for gang-saw (katrak) cutting.
- Cleaning: Tools and equipment are cleaned with DC 19 cleaning solvent.
